A New Acoustic Energy- Based Method to Estimate Pre-Loads on Cored Rocks

چکیده
The Acoustic Emission (AE) due to the sudden release of energy from the micro-fracturing within the rock under loading has been used to estimate pre-load. Once the pre-load is exceeded an irreversible damage occurs at which AE signals significantly increase. This phenomenon known as Kaiser Effect (KE) can be recognised as an inflexion point in the cumulative AE hits versus stress curve. In order to determine the value of pre-load (σm) accurately, the curve may be approximated by two straight lines. The intersection point projected onto the stress axis indicates the pre-load. However, in some cases locating the point of inflexion is not easy. To overcome this problem we have developed a new method, The University of Adelaide Method (UoA), which use cumulative acoustic energy. Unlike existing methods, the UoA method emphasises the energy of each AE, the square term of the amplitude of each AE. As the axial pre-load is exceeded, the micro cracks become larger than the existing fractures and therefore energy released with new and larger cracks retain higher acoustic energy. A new method based on fuzzy system and gravitational optimal detector for capacitor placement, considering nonlinear loads
This paper describes an advantageous method for using the capacitor banks in the distribution network, optimally. The aim is to determine the count, location and capacitor values in order to minimize the annual cost resulting from energy losses and capacitor bank’s installation cost. Besides, in the case of having nonlinear loads in the network, by installing capacitors in appropriate locations...

In this paper, dynamic transient method and conventional degree-hours method (static) have been compared to estimate heating and cooling loads of building’s wall. All main wall surfaces of various orientations, i.e.South, West, East, North, and horizontal are considered in the climate of Tehran, Iran. In this study, a conventional wall structure, which is comprisedconcrete as main wall material...
متن کاملOptimal energy management of the photovoltaic based distribution networks considering price responsive loads, energy storage systems and convex power flows.
Nowadays, presence of photovoltaic systems in distribution network is not without challenge and it may not have economic productivity for the system under the lack of optimal management. Energy storage systems are able to cope with this problem. Therefore, in this paper, a new method is proposed for energy management of the distribution networks in order to show that how presence of the energy ...

Introduction: Reducing noise pollution has become an essential issue due to the increase in public concern and also social demands for a better lifestyle. Using sound absorption materials is a preferred method to reduce the noise pollution. Undesirable properties of pure polyurethane such as poor absorption of mechanical energy in narrow frequency ranges can be improved by providing polymeric n...
متن کاملInvestigation of Pre-buckling Stress Effect on Buckling Load Determination of Finite Rectangular Plates with Circular Cutout
This paper investigates the buckling of finite isotropic rectangular plates with circular cutout under uniaxial and biaxial loading. The complex potential method is used to calculate the pre-buckling stress distribution around the cutout in the plate with finite dimensions. To satisfy the in-plane boundary conditions, the generalized complex-potential functions are introduced and a new method b...
